Instructions

GAUGE: Crocheting as directed, end of Round 3 = 1-1/2 inches across. Slight variations in gauge will change the finished size a bit.

DIRECTIONS:

  1. Round 1: With bright pink, ch 4 (counts as first dc), work 14 dcs in fourth ch from hk, join with a sl st in third ch of beginning ch-4: 15 dcs.
  2. Round 2: Ch 3 (counts as first dc here and throughout), dc in same st, work 2 dcs in each remaining st around, join with a sl st in top of beginning ch-3: 30 dcs.
  3. Round 3: Ch 3, dc in each remaining st around, join with a sl st in top of beginning ch-3: 30 dcs.
  4. Round 4: Ch 3, dc in same st, ch 1, [work 2 dcs in next st, ch 1] around, join with a sl st in top of beginning ch-3: 60 dcs and 30 ch-1 sps.
  5. Round 5: Sl st to next ch-1 sp, ch 3, dc in same sp, ch 1, [work 2 dcs in next ch-1 sp, ch 1] around to beginning ch-3, join with a sl st in top of beginning ch-3: 60 dcs and 30 ch-1 sps.
  6. Round 6: Repeat Round 5: 60 dcs and 30 ch-1 sps.
  7. Round 7: Sl st to next ch-1 sp, ch 3, work 2 dcs in same sp, ch 1, [work 3 dcs in next ch-1 sp, ch 1] around to beginning ch-3, join with a sl st in top of beginning ch-3: 90 dcs and 30 ch-1 sps.
  8. Rounds 8-9: Repeat Round 7: 90 dcs and 30 ch-1 sps.
  9. Round 10: Sl st to next ch-1 sp, ch 3, work 3 dcs in same sp, ch 1, [work 4 dcs in next ch-1 sp, ch 1] around to beginning ch-3, join with a sl st in top of beginning ch-3: 120 dcs and 30 ch-1 sps.
  10. Rounds 11-12: Repeat Round 10: 120 dcs and 30 ch-1 sps.
  11. Round 13: Sl st to next ch-1 sp, ch 3, work 4 dcs in same sp, ch 1, [work 5 dcs in next ch-1 sp, ch 1] around to beginning ch-3, join with a sl st in top of beginning ch-3: 150 dcs and 30 ch-1 sps.
  12. Round 14: Repeat Round 13: 150 dcs and 30 ch-1 sps.
  13. Round 15: Sl st to next ch-1 sp, ch 3, work 5 dcs in same sp, ch 1, [work 6 dcs in next ch-1 sp, ch 1] around to beginning ch-3, join with a sl st in top of beginning ch-3: 180 dcs and 30 ch-1 sps.
  14. Round 16: Repeat Round 15: 180 dcs and 30 ch-1 sps. Fasten off.
  15. Round 17: Attach light pink in top of first ch-3 sp of last round; work 1 sc in each st and 2 scs in each ch-sp around to beginning sc, join with a sl st in first sc: 240 scs. Fasten off.
  16. Round 18: Attach mint green in any st of Round 17, ch 3, dc in each st around to beginning ch-3, join with a sl st in top of beginning ch-3: 240 dcs.
  17. Round 19: Ch 3, work 1 dc in each of the next 6 sts, work 2 dcs in next st, [dc in each of the next 7 sts, work 2 dcs in next st] around to beginning ch-3, join with a sl st in top of beginning ch-3: 270 dcs. Fasten off.
  18. Round 20: Attach dark green in any st, ch 1, hdc in same st, hdc in each st around to beginning hdc, join with a sl st in top of first hdc: 270 hdcs. Fasten off.
  19. Use yarn or tapestry needle to weave in all loose ends.

FINISHING: Thread yarn or tapestry needle with a 15-in. length of black crochet cotton.

Starting in Round 3, randomly work two lazy daisy stitches in every other round for seeds. See Lazy Daizy Stitch for stitch illustration. Work carry-over threads into loops on back of doily. Weave in all loose ends and block if needed.

FINISHED SIZE: Watermelon doily mea­sures about 8-1/2 inches across.
