A Word About Size: Small = approximately child’s sizes 3-6; Medium = approximately child’s sizes 8-12; Large = approximately child’s sizes 14-16.

Back and Front

On No. 6 needles, cast on 70(82,96) st. Work in garter st at (k each row) for 2(2,2-1/2) in. Inc 2 st at both ends of next row to 74(86,100) st. Continue in garter st until piece measures 9(10-1/2,12) in.

Yoke

Tie on yoke color, k 5(7, 9) rows.

Row 1:

  • K 5 (p 8 k 6) * rep * and k last 5 st.
  • K 8 (p 10 k 6) * rep * and k last 8 st.
  • K 5 (p 12 k 6) * rep * and k last 5 st.
  • Row 2: K across row.
  • Rep rows 1 and 2 until piece mea­sures 14(15,16) in. K 4 more rows in garter st.

Neck Shaping

  • S K 22, sl 30 st on holder, tie on yoke color at other shoulder, k 22.
  • M K 26, sl 34 st on holder, tie on
  • yoke color at other shoulder, k 26.
  • L K 32, sl 36 st on holder, tie on yoke color at other shoulder, k 32.
  • Working both sides, k 20(24, 30) k 2 tog. K 2 tog. K 20(24, 30). K row.
  • K to last 2 st, k 2 tog. K 2 tog, k across. K row.
  • Repeat until 18(22, 28) st remain on each side. Bind off all st.

Neck Ribbing

With your choice of ribbing color, tie on, right side up, and pick up 10 st plus those on holder. K 1 p 1 for 1-1/4
(1-1/2,1-1/2) in. Bind off loosely, knitting k st and purling p st. Sew shoulder and neck ribbing of front and back together.

Sleeves

Tie yoke color at bottom of yoke, right side facing up. On No. 6 needles, pick up 50(56, 62) st. K 3 rows.

Pattern:

  • S K 5, p 10, k 5, p 10, k 5, p 10, k 5.
  • M K 7, p 10, k 6, p 10, k 6, p 10, k 7.
  • L K 7, p 12, k 6, p 12, k 6, p 12, k 7.
  • K row. Rep these 2 rows until sleeve measures 3-1/2(4-1/2, 5) in. K 4 rows yoke color in garter st. Tie on body color and continue in garter st until entire sleeve (from shoulder) measures 10-1/2(11-1/2, 13) in.

Cuff

  • Still using No. 6 needles, with right side facing up, dec:
  • S K 2 tog k 5 to row end.
  • M K 2 tog k 4 to row end.
  • L K 2 tog k 4 to row end.
  • There should be 42(45, 59) st.
  • Change to No. 4 needles and k 1 p 1 ribbing until cuff measures 2(2-1/4, 2-1/2) in. Bind off loosely. Sew underarm and side seams and block.
