Valentine’s Day Fortune Cookies

Great for a special teacher or friend, these felt fortune cookies in a takeout box are a fun treat with no calories. They’re easy to put together with the help of our printable labels and fortunes.

Materials

  • Printable label and fortunes (below)
  • Compass
  • Fabric marker
  • 9-in. x 12-in. felt sheets in brown, pink and tan
  • Scraps of card stock in brown and pink
  • Glue stick
  • 3-D foam adhesive
  • 4-in.-tall white takeout box
  • 5/8-in. heart punch
  • Low-temperature hot glue gun and glue sticks

Instructions

  1. Download and print label and fortunes, Page 1 & Page 2.
  2. Cut labels and fortunes out from the printable pages and set aside.
  3. With compass and fabric marker, draw several 3-in.-diameter circles on the felt sheets. Cut out and set aside.
  4. Use compass to draw a 3-in.-diameter circle on pink card stock and a 2-1/2-in.-diameter circle on brown card stock. Cut them out. Center brown circle on pink circle; affix with glue stick. Then center printed label on brown circle and affix with glue stick. Apply foam adhesive to back of pink circle and affix layered label, centered, to side of takeout box.
  5. With heart punch, make a heart from brown card stock. Use foam adhesive to adhere to label as in photo.
  6. To make a felt fortune cookie, center a paper fortune on felt circle. Fold felt circle in half over fortune and secure felt with a small dot of hot glue in the center where outer edges meet. Fold open ends back until they touch, forming a U-shaped fortune cookie. Secure with a small dot of hot glue.
  7. Make desired number of cookies, place in box and close lid.

Hello, Letha, In order to download the labels and fortunes you must have Adobe Acrobat Reader installed in your computer. You can install it quite simply for free by going to this website: http://get.adobe.com/reader/
This should solve your problem. Happy crafting!

I make a variation that makes the cookie seem more realistic. I use thin bendable wire that I place in the middle of the felt circle. I cover it with a strip of felt to hide the wire. The cookie then is bendable and stays in shape.

Tip! You can also use a pieces of matching pipe cleaner for bending the cookie. Is easier then putting the wire and they look very pretty :)
