GAUGE: 6 dcs and 2 rows = 1 inch. Slight variations in gauge will change the finished size a bit.

Techniques/stitches used: Refer to knitting/crocheting abbreviations and stitch illustrations below.

DIRECTIONS: Before you begin, refer to gauge, techniques/stitches used, etc.

  1. Row 1 (RS): With pale yellow, ch 120, work 1 dc in fourth ch from hk for first dc and in each remaining ch across: count 116 dcs.
  2. Row 2: Ch 3, turn (counts as first dc now and throughout), work 1 dc in each of the next 2 dcs, * sk 1 dc, work 1 dc in next dc, working behind last dc, work 1 dc in sk dc; rep from * across to last 3 dcs, work 1 dc in each of the last 3 dcs: count 116 dcs.
  3. Row 3: Ch 3, turn, work 1 dc in each dc across. Fasten off, turn.
  4. Row 4: With a white sl st on hk, sc in first st and in each remaining st across row: count 116 scs.
  5. Row 5: Ch 3, turn, work 1 dc in each of the next 2 dcs, * sk 1 dc, work 1 dc in next dc, working behind last dc, work 1 dc in sk dc; rep from * across to last 3 dcs, work 1 dc in each of the last 3 dcs: count 116 dcs.
  6. Row 6: Ch 1, turn, sc in first st and in each remaining st across. Fasten off, turn: count 116 scs.
  7. Row 7: Join variegated yarn with a sl st in last st, ch 3, work 1 dc in each st across: count 116 dcs.
  8. Row 8: Ch 3, turn, rep Row 5: count 116 dcs.
  9. Row 9: Ch 3, turn, work 1 dc in each dc across. Fasten off, turn.
  10. Rows 10-12: Rep Rows 4-6: count 116 scs.
  11. Rows 13-15: With pale blue, rep Rows 7-9: count 116 dcs.
  12. Rows 16-18: Rep Rows 4-6: count 116 scs.
  13. Rows 19-21: With variegated yarn, rep Rows 7-9: count 116 dcs.

  19. Rows 37-39: With pale yellow, rep Rows 7-9: count 116 dcs.
  20. Rows 40-111: Rep Rows 4-39 two more times. Fasten off at end of Row 111: count 116 dcs.
  21. Edging: Rnd 1: With RS facing and a white sl knot on hk, sc in last st of Row 111; sc around outside edge, working 1 sc in each st across ending and beginning rows, making scs evenly spaced along ends of rows and making 3 scs in each corner, join with a sl st in first sc.
  22. Rnd 2: Ch 3, work 7 dcs in center sc of corner, dc in next sc, * [sk 2 scs, work 5 dcs in next sc, sk 2 scs, work 1 dc in next sc] around to last 3 scs from corner, work 1 dc in next sc, work 7 dcs in center sc of corner, work 1 dc in next st; rep from * around to beg ch-3, join with a sl st in third ch of beg ch-3.

FINISHED SIZE: Crocheted baby afghan measures about 50 inches long x 35 inches wide.
