Instructions

GAUGE: When working in St st (k 1 row, p 1 row) on size 7 needles, 18 sts and 22 rows = 4 inches. To save time, take time to check gauge.

Techniques/stitches used: Refer to knitting abbreviations below.

  • Seed st border: Row 1: * K1, p1; rep from * across row.
  • Rows 2-6: P the k sts and k the p sts across row.
  • Seed st: * K1, p1; rep from * as directed.
  • Remaining rows: P the k sts and k the p sts.
  • SSK: With yarn in back, sl 2 sts knitwise one at a time onto right needle; insert left needle into fronts of these 2 sts and k them together.
  • Sl-2-k1-p2sso: Sl 2 sts knitwise onto right needle; k the next st, then insert the left needle into the two slipped sts at once and draw them together over the knitted st and off the needle.

HEATHER GREEN PANEL (make 2): With white, cast on 36 sts.

  • Border: Rows 1-6: Work in seed st border. Fasten off white at end of Row 6.
  • Pattern: Row 1 (WS): With heather green, k1, p16, p2tog, p16, k1: count 35 sts.
  • Row 2: K2, * k5, k2tog, yo, k1, yo, SSK, k6; rep from * across to last st, k1.
  • Row 3 and WS Rows 5-25: K1, p33, k1: count 35 sts.
  • Row 4: K2, * k4, k2tog, yo, k3, yo, SSK, k5; rep from * across to last st, k1.
  • Row 6: K2, * k3, [k2tog, yo] twice, k1, [yo, SSK] twice, k4; rep from * across to last st, k1.

  • Border: Rows 1-6: Attach white and work in seed st border.
  • Bind off in pattern.

FINISHING: Using tapestry needle, sew a heather green panel to either side of the center white panel with right sides facing. Sew the right white panel to the edge of the right heather green panel. Sew the left white panel to the edge of the other heather green panel with right sides facing.

Use tapestry needle to weave in all loose ends.

FINISHED SIZE: Afghan measures about 54 inches wide x 58 inches long.
