Instructions

GAUGE: 8 dcs and 4 rows = 4 inches. Slight variations in gauge will change the finished size a bit.

Techniques/stitches used: Refer to knitting/crocheting abbreviations below.

DIRECTIONS: Before you begin, refer to gauge, techniques/stitches used, etc.

SNOWMAN:

  1. S-Rnd 1: Starting at bottom, with Puff, ch 4 for first dc, work 9 dcs in fourth ch from hk, join with a sl st in top of beg ch-4: count 10 dcs.
  2. S-Rnd 2: Ch 3 (counts as first dc here and throughout), work 1 dc in same sp as sl st, * work 2 dcs in next dc; rep from * around, join with a sl st in top of beg ch-3: count 20 dcs.
  3. S-Rnd 3: Ch 3, work 1 dc in next st, * work 2 dcs in next st, dc in each of next 2 sts; rep from * around, join with a sl st in top of beg ch-3: count 26 dcs.
  4. S-Rnds 4-5: Ch 3, work 1 dc in each st around, join with a sl st in top of beg ch-3: count 26 dcs.
  5. S-Rnd 6: Ch 3, dc next 2 sts tog, * dc in next st, dc next 2 sts tog; rep from * around to last st, dc in last st, join with a sl st in top of beg ch-3: count 18 dcs.
  6. S-Rnds 7-9: Ch 3, work 1 dc in each st around, join with a sl st in top of beg ch-3: count 18 dcs. Stuff softly at end of S-Rnd 9.
  7. S-Rnd 10: Ch 3, work 1 dc in next st, * dc next 2 sts tog; rep from * around, join with a sl st in top of beg ch-3. Fasten off, leaving a tail of yarn. Thread tap­estry or yarn needle with tail of yarn and sew opening closed at top of head.

ARM (make 2):

  1. A-Rnd 1: With Puff, ch 2, work 8 scs in second ch from hk, join with a sl st in first sc: count 8 scs.
  2. A-Rnds 2-7: Place stitch marker and move with each rnd worked; ch 1, work 1 sc in each st around without joining, join with a sl st at end of A-Rnd 7.
  3. Stuff arm softly. Flatten end of arm and fasten off, leaving a tail of yarn.
  4. Thread tapestry or yarn needle with tail of yarn and sew arms to opposite sides of body at S-Rnd 6.

SCARF:

  1. With Pine, ch 37, work 1 sc in second ch from hk and in each remaining ch across. Fasten off.
  2. Fringe: Cut six 4-inch lengths of Pine. Fold each length in half. Use crochet hk to draw folded end of yarn through a st at one narrow end of scarf. Pull ends of yarn through folded end and draw up to secure yarn on end of scarf. Repeat, adding three strands of yarn to each narrow end of the scarf.

HAT:

  1. H-Rnd 1: With Pine, ch 4 for first dc, work 11 dcs in fourth ch from hk, join with a sl st in top of beg ch-4: count 12 dcs.
  2. H-Rnd 2: Ch 3 (counts as first dc here and throughout), work 2 dcs in next st * dc in next st, work 2 dcs in next st; rep from * around, join with a sl st in top of beg ch-3: count 18 dcs.
  3. H-Rnds 3-4: Ch 3, work 1 dc in each st around, join with a sl st in top of beg ch-3: count 18 dcs.
  4. H-Rnd 5: Working in front lps only, ch 3, work 1 dc in same st, work 2 dcs in each st around, join with a sl st in top of beg ch-3: count 36 dcs.
  5. H-Rnd 6: Ch 1, work 1 sc in each st around, join with a sl st in first sc: count 36 dcs. Fasten off.

FINISHING:

  1. Stuff hat softly. Thread tap­es­try or yarn needle with Pine and use to tack hat onto top of snowman’s head.
  2. Wrap length of Wine yarn around hat and tie ends in a bow in front.
  3. Referring to photo above left for position, glue eyes and nose to head.
  4. Thread tapestry or yarn needle with black yarn. Referring to photo for position, tie one end of yarn onto one side of face for mouth. Tie other end of yarn to other side of face, leaving center of yarn hanging free across front of face. Trim excess.
  5. Wrap scarf around snowman’s neck and tie ends in a loose overhand knot.
  6. Thread a length of Puff onto tapestry or yarn needle. Sew a handle of the wash tub to the end of each arm.

FINISHED SIZE: Snowman dish is about 10 inches high x 8 inches wide.
