Instructions

GAUGE: 4 dcs and 2 rows = 1 inch. Slight variations in gauge will change the finished size a bit.

Techniques/stitches used: Refer to crochet abbreviations below.

Long dc: Yo, insert hk into the front of the bottom half of dc, draw up a lp even with lp on hk, yo and draw through 2 lps on hk, yo and draw through remaining lps on hk.

DIRECTIONS: Before you begin, refer to gauge, techniques/stitches used, etc.

  1. Row 1: With soft white, ch 25, dc in third ch from hk and in each remaining ch across. Fasten off: count 23 dcs.
  2. Row 2: With RS facing, attach soft white in top of beg ch-3 of Row 1, ch 3 for first dc, 1 dc in each ch across. Fasten off: count 23 dcs.
  3. Row 3: With RS facing, attach soft white to first ch on opposite side of beg chs, ch 3 for first dc, 1 dc in each ch across. Fasten off: count 23 dcs.
  4. Rnd 1: With RS facing, attach soft white to third dc of Row 3; ch 3 (counts as 1 dc here and throughout), [work 1 long dc in next dc, dc in next dc] to last dc of row, (dc, ch 1, dc) in last st for corner, work 1 long dc in same sp as last long dc of rnd, dc in sp between rows, work 1 long dc around post (side) of second dc from end of next row, dc in top of same row, work 1 long dc in bottom of second dc in next row, (dc, ch 1, dc) in top of first dc of same row, work 1 long dc in same sp as last long dc of rnd, [dc in next dc, work 1 long dc in next dc] to last dc of row, (dc, ch 1, dc) in last st for corner, work 1 long dc in same sp as last long dc of rnd, dc in sp between rows, work 1 long dc around post (side) of second dc from end of next row, dc in top of same row, work 1 long dc in bottom of second dc in next row, join with a sl st in third ch of beg ch-3: count 4 ch-1 sps and 60 sts.
  5. Rnd 2: Sl st to next dc, ch 3, * [work 1 long dc in next dc, dc in next long dc] to corner ch-1 sp, work (2 dcs, ch 1, 2 dcs) in ch-1 sp for corner, [work 1 long dc in next dc, dc in next long dc] to corner ch-1 sp, work (2 dcs, ch 1, 2 dcs) in ch-1 sp for corner; rep from * around to beg ch-3, join with a sl st in third ch of beg ch-3: count 4 ch-1 sps and 76 sts.
  6. Rnds 3-4: Sl st to next dc, ch 3, * [dc in next long dc, work 1 long dc in next dc] to corner ch-1 sp, work (dc, ch 1, dc) in ch-1 sp for corner, [dc in next long dc, work 1 long dc in next dc] to corner ch-1 sp, work (dc, ch 1, dc) in ch-1 sp for corner; rep from * around to beg ch-3, join with a sl st in third ch of beg ch-3: count 4 ch-1 sps and 92 sts at end of Rnd 4.
  7. Rnd 5: Rep Rnd 2. Fasten off soft white: count 4 ch-1 sps and 108 sts.
  8. Rnd 6: Attach light rose in last st; sl st to next dc, ch 3, * [dc in next long dc, work 1 long dc in each dc] to corner ch-1 sp, (dc, ch 1, dc) in ch-1 sp for corner, [dc in next long dc, work 1 long dc in next dc] to corner ch-1 sp, (dc, ch 1, dc) in ch-1 sp for corner; rep from * around to beg ch-3, join with a sl st in third ch of beg ch-3: count 4 ch-1 sps and 116 sts. Fasten off light rose.
  9. Rnd 7: Attach coral in last st; rep Rnd 6: count 4 ch-1 sps and 124 sts. Fasten off coral.
  10. Rnd 8: Attach pale yellow in last st; rep Rnd 6: count 4 ch-1 sps and 132 sts. Fasten off pale yellow.
  11. Rnd 9: Attach pastel green in last st; rep Rnd 6: count 4 ch-1 sps and 140 sts. Fasten off pastel green.
  12. Rnd 10: Attach light blue in last st; rep Rnd 6: count 4 ch-1 sps and 148 sts. Fasten off light blue.
  13. Rnd 11: Attach lavender in last st; rep Rnd 6: count 4 ch-1 sps and 156 sts. Fasten off lavender.
  14. Rnd 12: Attach soft white in last st; rep Rnd 6: count 4 ch-1 sps and 164 sts.
  15. Rnd 13: Rep Rnd 2: count 4 ch-1 sps and 180 sts.
  16. Rnd 14: Rep Rnd 6: count 4 ch-1 sps and 188 sts. Fasten off soft white.
  17. Rnds 15-32: Rep Rnds 6-14 twice. Do not fasten off at end of Rnd 32.
  18. Rnd 33: Rep Rnd 6. Fasten off.
  19. Edging: E-Rnd 1: With RS facing, join soft white with a sl st in top of the second long dc from a corner; ch 1, * (dc, ch 1, dc, ch 1, dc) in next long dc, sl st in top of next long dc; rep from * to last dc before corner, dc in last dc, ch 1, (dc, ch 1, dc) in corner ch-sp, dc in next dc; rep from * around to beg sc, join with a sl st in beg sc.
  20. E-Rnd 2: Ch 1, sc in each dc and in each ch-1 sp around, working 2 scs in each corner ch-1 sp, join with a sl st in beg sc. Fasten off. Weave in the loose ends with the tapestry needle.

FINISHED SIZE: Afghan measures about 36 inches wide x 42 inches long.
