APPLIQUES:

  1. Trace white flower pattern onto tracing paper.
  2. Following manufacturer’s instructions, fuse a slightly smaller square of fusible paper-backed web to wrong side of one white-on-white print square. Remove backing and, with edges matching, fuse square to wrong side of another white-on-white square.
  3. Pin remaining white-on-white square to fused square with right sides facing and edges matching.
  4. Pin traced pattern to layered fabrics. With a small straight stitch, sew on traced lines of pattern. Remove pattern. Trim just outside stitching, leaving a narrow seam allowance. Clip curves and trim corners. Make a small slit in center on wrong side only. Turn right side out and press.

Small Green Leaves:

  1. Trace small green leaves pattern onto tracing paper.
  2. Pin two squares of medium-green print together with right sides facing and edges     matching.

  2. Fuse the two dark-green print squares together with wrong sides facing and edges matching.

  1. With a ¼-in. seam, sew a 1-1/2-in.-wide x 6-1/2-in.-long medium-green print strip to opposite sides of 6-1/2-in. background square. Open and press seams toward strips.
  2. In the same way, sew a 1-1/2-in.-wide x 8-1/2-in.-long medium-green strip to top and bottom of background. Open and press seams toward strips.

Outer Border:

  1. With a ¼-in. seam, sew a 1-1/2-in.-wide x 8-1/2-in.long light-green print strip to opposite sides of background square. Open and press seams toward strips.
  2. In the same way, sew a 1-1/2-in.-wide x 10-1/2-in.-long medium-green strip to top and bottom of pieced background. Open and press seams toward strips.

QUILTING:

  1. Center batting on top of backing and block on top of batting. Pin in place.
  2. With matching thread, quilt inner and outer border areas as desired.
  3. Use quilter’s marking pen or pencil to draw spiderweb on front of block. Use white pearl cotton and a running stitch to sew over lines. See Fig. 1 in patterns for stitch illustration.
