- Paintbrushes—small flat and liner
- Black fine-line permanent marker
- Two 1-inch-long forked twigs for arms
- Two 3mm red beads

- 1/2-inch x 12-inch torn strip of red-and-green plaid fabric for scarf
- Cotton swab and powdered cosmetic blush
- Low-temperature glue gun and glue sticks

Instructions
BASE:
- Roll a walnut-sized ball of white clay.
- Press the top of the bulb gently into the clay to flatten and form the base for the snowman. Remove bulb.
- Roll a pea-sized ball of orange clay into a 3/8-inch-long cone shape for the nose.
- Place clay pieces on baking sheet and bake according to manufacturer’s instructions.
- Let cool.
PAINTING:
- Use flat brush and white to paint the glass portion of the bulb. Paint the metal socket dark green. Let dry.
- Use liner and black to paint two small eyes on the bulb as shown in photo above.
- Use liner and white to shade the lower portion of each eye and to add a tiny highlight to the center of each. Use flat brush and white to add highlights to green portion of metal socket as shown in photo.
- Use black marker to add eyelashes, eyebrows and mouth.
- Use cotton swab and a circular motion to apply cosmetic blush to cheeks.
ASSEMBLY:
- Glue top of bulb to base, making sure it stands upright. Let dry.
- Glue nose to center of snowman’s face, twigs to opposite side for arms and red beads down center front. Let dry.
- Apply textured snow around base, to top and around bottom edge of metal socket. Add a bit of textured snow to tip of nose, twig arms and red beads. While textured snow is still wet, sprinkle it with clear glitter. Let dry.
- Wrap fabric strip around snowman and tie ends in an overhand knot. Spot-glue as needed to hold and trim ends as desired.
- To make this lightbulb snowman a ornament, simply glue on a hanging loop. Or make a whole snowman family, using bulbs of different sizes.
Finished Size: Snowman measures about 3-1/2 inches across x 3-3/4 inches high.

Thank you for sending me the email of crafts to make……I love them and plan to make the light bulb snowman……..thank you
I love these! I have 4 snowmen that I made in previous years. Last year, my sister, niece, and I got together to have a “snowman making party”. This year, we continued the tradition, along with my new niece-in-law. We not only made snowmen, but penguins, santas, and elves! What a fun way to recycle! Thanks, Country Woman, for great ideas!
Do you have the instructions for the penguins? I would also try to try them.
Marlene, You will find instructions for the penguin doll on our website:http://www.countrywomanmagazine.com/project/crafted-penguin-doll/
If you have trouble downloading our patterns, you will need to install adobe acrobat software on your computer. It is free and downloads quickly. Find it at: http://get.adobe.com/reader/

I loved the snowman lightbulb! How cute!
These are adorable. I’m wondering if instead of a clay base you could use a furniture caster, painted or a terra cotta mini planter saucer, painted? Can’t wait to try these!
thank’s for sharing this ,look’s really cute ,I will have my grandkid’s here and we will do this together,. THANK’S AGAIN Dottie
I love the snowman, printing this out and saving for next year to do but wish I had seen this before Christmas. Also like the idea on making penguins, Santas, and elves. Great ideas!
adorei!!!!!!!!!!!
Thank you so much for this craft posting . . .
I made these with a few minor changes and they are just adorable. In keeping with my past craft styles I changed the eyes and base size to make them a bit more comical.
For my nephews I used wiggle eyes and tilted the snowmen so they look like they’re falling over.
Many great options to vary these snowmen.
They will go nicely with my wooden egg penguins!
Thank you!
I’m very interested in all things elves right now. Phyllis Stonehocker stated that she had made some. Is it possible to find out more about that? Maybe a source for her elven crafts?
I so enjoy looking at crafts, just havenn’t gotten around to doing any. Thank you.
Janet
Janet, if Phyllis sees this, we’d love to see a few of her creations.
In the meantime, you might like the second photo in this post: http://www.countrywomanmagazine.com/home-garden/idea-gallery/idea-gallery-no-melt-snowman/ — a reader adapted a snowman paver craft and one of hers is an elf. You could also try Googling “elf light bulb”.
