Instructions

NOTE: Super Saver yarn is sold in 8-ounce skeins (6 ounces for multicolors). One 100-gram, 3- or 3-1/2-ounce skein of each color can be substituted if another brand is used.

GAUGE: When working in St st on size 6 needles, 18 sts and 25 rows = 4 inches. To save time, take time to check gauge.

Stitches/techniques used:

  • K 1, p 1 rib: All rnds: K 1, p 1 around.
  • M 1: Pick up the horizontal st between 2 sts and place it on the left needle; insert the right needle in the back of this st so it twists as you k 1.

Following charts: Before you begin, please download Hearts Sweater Charts and Hearts Sweater Color Key.

Always twist strands at color changes to prevent holes, loosely carrying the dropped color along the back (purl side) to be picked up again when needed. When all rnds of a chart have been completed, cut both colors, leaving 4-inch-long tails for weaving.

Directions: SLEEVE (make 2):

  • Rnd 1: With color B and smaller double-point needles, cast on 36 sts. Evenly divide the sts over three needles. Without twisting the sts, work in k 1, p 1 rib around. Place a st marker between the first 2 sts to mark the beg of a new rnd, slipping the marker from one needle to the next as you work.
  • Rnds 2-12: Continue in k 1, p 1 rib.
  • Rnd 13: Change to larger double-point needles, k 2, M 1; * k 3, M 1; rep from * around, ending with k 1: count 48 sts. Cut yarn, leaving a 4-inch-long tail for weaving.
  • Rnds 14-18: K each st with color A. Drop yarn at end of Rnd 18.
  • Rnds 19-27: K each st, following Chart 1 for color changes.
  • Rnds 28-32: Pick up color A and k each st. Drop yarn at end of Rnd 32.
  • Rnds 33-39: K each st, following Chart 2 for color changes.
  • Rnds 40-44: Pick up color A and k each st. Drop yarn at end of Rnd 44.
  • Rnds 45-49: K each st, following Chart 3 for color changes.
  • Rnds 50-54: Pick up color A and k each st. Drop yarn at end of Rnd 54.
  • Rnds 55-60: K each st, following Chart 4 for color changes.
  • Rnds 61-62: Pick up color A and k each st.
  • Rnd 63: K each st with color A, binding off the last 4 sts in k.
  • Rnd 64: Bind off the first 4 sts in k, removing marker. Place remaining unworked sts on a st holder and set aside. Cut yarn.
