Instructions

GAUGE: 8 dcs and 3 rnds of dc = 1 inch. To save time, take time to check gauge.

Stitches used: Refer to knitting/crocheting abbreviations below.

  • V-st: Work (dc, ch 1, dc) all in one st or sp as specified in instructions.
  • Double triple crochet: dtr: Yo three times, insert hk in st or sp specified in instructions and draw yarn through so there are 5 lps on hk, [yo, draw yarn through 2 lps on hk] four times.
  • Shell: Work (2 dcs, ch 2, 2 dcs) all in one st or sp as specified in instructions.
  • 3-tr cluster: * Yo twice, insert hk in st or sp specified in instructions and draw yarn through, [yo, draw yarn through 2 lps on hk] twice; rep from * two more times in same st or sp as before; yo, draw yarn through all lps on hk, ch 1.

DIRECTIONS: Before you begin, check gauge and review stitches used. All rnds are worked on the right side (RS) of work. The leaves are worked in rows.

  1. Rnd 1: With red, ch 6, sl st in sixth ch from hk to form a ring; ch 3 (counts as first dc), work 11 dcs in ring, sl st in top of beg ch-3: count 12 dcs.
  2. Rnd 2: Ch 1, sc in same sp as sl st; * ch 3, sk 1 dc, sc in next dc; rep from * four more times, ch 3, sl st in beg sc: count 6 scs and 6 ch-3 sps. Fasten off.
  3. Rnd 3: Join white with a sl st in any ch-3 sp, ch 4, dc in same sp (counts as first V-st); * ch 5, V-st in next ch-3 sp; rep from * four more times, ch 5, sl st in third ch of beg ch-4: count 6 V-sts and 6 ch-5 sps.
  4. Rnd 4: Sl st in ch-1 sp of first V-st, ch 4, dc in same sp; * ch 3, sc in next ch-5 sp, ch 3, V-st in ch-1 sp of next V-st; rep from * four more times, ch 3, sc in next ch-5 sp, ch 3, sl st in third ch of beg ch-4: count 6 V-sts and 6 scs.
  5. Rnd 5: Sl st in ch-1 sp of first V-st, ch 4, dc in same sp; * ch 9, V-st in ch-1 sp of next V-st; rep from * four more times, ch 9, join with a sl st in third ch of beg ch-4: count 6 V-sts and 6 ch-9 sps. Fasten off.

LEAF: Before continuing with Rnd 6, add one leaf to the ch-1 sp of each V-st as follows:

  1. L-Row 1: With RS facing, join green with a sl st in ch-1 sp of a V-st, ch 3 (counts as first dc), work 2 dcs in V-st: count 3 dcs.
  2. L-Row 2: Ch 5, turn; dc in first dc, work 2 dcs in each of next 2 dcs: count one ch-5 lp and 5 dcs.
  3. L-Row 3: Ch 5, turn; dc in first dc and each of next 4 dcs, work 2 dcs in top of beg ch-5: count one ch-5 lp and 7 dcs.
  4. L-Row 4: Ch 5, turn; dc in first dc and each of next 6 dcs, work 2 dcs in top of beg ch-5: count one ch-5 lp and 9 dcs.
  5. L-Row 5: Ch 5, turn; sk first dc, dc in each of next 7 dcs: count one ch-5 lp and 7 dcs.
  6. L-Row 6: Ch 5, turn; dc in first dc and each of next 5 dcs: count one ch-5 lp and 6 dcs.
  7. L-Row 7: Ch 5, turn; dc in first dc and each of next 4 dcs: count one ch-5 lp and 5 dcs.
  8. L-Row 8: Ch 5, turn; dc in first dc and each of next 3 dcs: count one ch-5 lp and 4 dcs.
  9. L-Row 9: Ch 5, turn; dc in first dc and each of next 2 dcs: count one ch-5 lp and 3 dcs.
  10. L-Row 10: Ch 5, turn; sk first dc, dc in each of next 2 dcs: count one ch-5 lp and 2 dcs. Fasten off.
  11. Rnd 6: With RS facing, join white with a sl st in the ch-5 lp of L-Row 10 on any leaf; * working down the side of same leaf [ch 7, sc in next ch-5 lp] four times, ch 3, sc in ch-9 sp of Rnd 5, ch 3, sc in first ch-5 lp of next leaf, working up the side of this leaf [ch 7, sc in next ch-5 lp] four times; rep from * four more times; [ch 7, sc in next ch-5 lp] four times, ch 3, sc in ch-9 sp of Rnd 5, ch 3, sc in first ch-5 lp of next leaf, [ch 7, sc in next ch-5 lp] three times, ch 3, tr in beg sl st.
  12. Rnd 7: Sc in lp just formed at end of Rnd 6, [ch 7, sc in next ch-7 sp] four times; * ch 3, sc in first ch-7 sp of next leaf, [ch 7, sc in next ch-7 sp] seven times; rep from * four more times; ch 3, sc in ch-7 sp of next leaf, [ch 7, sc in next ch-7 sp] twice, ch 3, tr in beg sc.
  13. Rnd 8: Sc in lp just formed at end of Rnd 7, [ch 8, sc in next ch-7 sp] four times; * sc in ch-7 sp of next leaf, [ch 8, sc in next ch-7 sp] six times; rep from * four more times; sc in ch-7 sp of next leaf, ch 8, sc in next ch-7 sp, ch 8, sl st in beg sc.
  14. Rnd 9: Sl st to center of first ch-8 sp, sc in same sp, [ch 9, sc in next ch-8 sp] three times; * ch 3, sc in next ch-8 sp, [ch 9, sc in next ch-8 sp] five times; rep from * four more times; ch 3, sc in next ch-8 sp, ch 9, sc in next ch-8 sp, ch 4, dtr in beg sc.
  15. Rnd 10: Sc in lp just formed at end of Rnd 9; * ch 10, sc in next ch-9 sp; rep from * around, skipping all ch-3 sps, join with a sl st in beg sc: count 30 ch-10 sps. Fasten off.
  16. Rnd 11: Join red with a sl st in center of any ch-10 sp, work (ch 3, dc, ch 2, 2 dcs) in same sp as sl st, ch 7; * work 1 shell, ch 7 in next ch-10 sp; rep from * around, join with a sl st in top of beg ch-3: count 30 shells.
  17. Rnd 12: Sl st to ch-2 sp of first shell, work (ch 3, dc, ch 2, 2 dcs) in same sp as sl st, ch 9; * work shell in ch-2 sp of next shell, ch 9; rep from * around, join with a sl st in top of beg ch-3.
  18. Rnd 13: Sl st to ch-2 sp of first shell, work (ch 3, dc, ch 2, 2 dcs) in same sp as sl st, ch 5, insert hk under next ch-7 sp of Rnd 11 and sc around both the ch-9 sp of Rnd 12 and the ch-7 sp of Rnd 11 in one step, ch 5; * work shell in ch-2 sp of next shell, ch 5, sc around both the ch-9 sp of Rnd 12 and the ch-7 sp of Rnd 11 as before, ch 5; rep from * around, join with a sl st in top of beg ch-3. Fasten off.
  19. Rnd 14: Join white with a sc in ch-2 sp of any shell; * [ch 5, sc in next ch-5 sp] twice, ch 5, sc in ch-2 sp of next shell; rep from * around, ending last rep with ch 3, dc in beg sc: count 90 ch-5 sps.
  20. Rnds 15-16: Sc in lp just formed at end of last rnd; * ch 5, sc in next lp, rep from * around, ending last rep with ch 3, dc in beg sc: count 90 ch-5 sps. Fasten off.
  21. Rnd 17: Join green with a sc in any ch-5 sp, * ch 6, work 3-tr cluster in next sp, ch 5, sc in next sp; rep from * around, ending last rep with a sl st in beg sc. Fasten off.
  22. Use needle to weave in loose ends.
  23. Cover foam board with waxed paper. Spray doily with starch. Pin doily to foam board to dry.

Finished size: Doily measures about 17 inches across.
