Instructions

GAUGE: At the end of Round 3, piece measures about 1-1/2 inches wide. A slight variation in gauge will change the finished size a bit.

DIRECTIONS:

CROSS:

  1. Round 1: Ch 4, join in first ch made to form a ring.
  2. Round 2: Ch 3 for first dc, dc in ring, ch 2, [work 2 dcs in ring, ch 2] three times, join with a sl st in top of beginning ch-3: 8 dcs and 4 ch-2 sps. Leave beginning thread hang in back to mark back.
  3. Round 3: Sl st to next ch-2 sp, (ch 3 for first dc, dc, ch 3, 2 dcs) in same sp, ch 1, * (work 2 dcs, ch 3, 2 dcs) in next
  4. ch-2 sp, ch 1; repeat from * around, join with a sl st in top of beginning ch-3, turn: 16 dcs and 8 ch-sps.
  5. First point: Row 1: Ch 4 for first dc and ch-1 sp, (work 3 dcs, ch 3, 3 dcs) in next ch-sp, ch 1, sk next 2 dcs, dc in next ch-sp: 8 dcs and 3 ch-sps.
  6. Row 2: Ch 4 for first dc and ch-1 sp, turn, (work 4 dcs, ch 4, 4 dcs) in next ch-3 sp, ch 1, sk next 3 dcs and first ch in next ch-sp, dc in next ch: 10 dcs and 3 sps.
  7. Row 3: Ch 4 for first dc and ch-1 sp, turn, (work 5 dcs, ch 5, 5 dcs) in next ch-4 sp, ch 1, sk next 4 dcs and first ch in next ch-sp, dc in next ch: 12 dcs and 3 sps. Fasten off.
  8. Second and third points: With sl knot on hk, join thread in same sp as last dc of first point Row 1.
  9. Row 1: Ch 4 for first dc and ch-1 sp, (work 3 dcs, ch 3, 3 dcs) in next ch—sp, ch 1, sk next 2 dcs, dc in next ch-sp: 8 dcs and 3 sps.
  10. Rows 2-3: Repeat Rows 2-3 of first point.
  11. Long point: With sl knot on hk, join thread in first remaining ch-sp of Round 3.
  12. Rows 1-3: Repeat Rows 1-3 of first point.
  13. Row 4: Ch 4 for first dc and ch-1 sp, turn, work (6 dcs, ch 6, 6 dcs) in next ch-5 sp, ch 1, sk next 5 dcs and first ch in next ch-sp, dc in next ch, turn: 14 dcs and 3 sps.
  14. Row 5: Ch 4 for first dc and ch-1 sp, turn, work (7 dcs, ch 3, 7 dcs) in next ch-6 sp, ch 1, sk next 6 dcs and first ch in next ch-sp, dc in next ch: 16 dcs and 3 sps.
  15. Edging: Sc in first ch-sp along edge, ch 3, sl st in first ch made (picot made), sc in same sp, [(sc, ch 3-picot, sc) in next sp] four more times along long point, * work three sc in next sp, [(sc, ch 3-picot, sc) in next sp] three times, sc in next 5 dcs, (sc, ch 3-picot, sc) in ch-sp on end of point, sc in next 5 dcs, [(sc, ch 3-picot, sc) in next sp] three times; repeat from * two more times, work 3 scs in next sp, [(sc, ch 3-picot, sc) in next sp] five times along long point, sc in next 7 dcs, (sc, ch 3-

  17. Use yarn or tapestry needle to weave in all loose ends.

TASSEL:

  1. Wind thread 25 times around cardboard.
  2. Cut a 6-inch length of thread. Slip one end of thread under loops on top edge of cardboard. Pull ends to gather thread together tightly. Tie ends in a knot.
  3. Bend cardboard and carefully slip thread off cardboard. Cut another 6-inch length of thread. Wrap thread around tassel about 1/4 inch from top. Knot ends and trim close to knot. Cut opposite ends to form fringe.
  4. Tie tassel to long point of cross. Trim ends close to knot.

FINISHED SIZE: Bookmark measures about 8-1/2 inches high x 3-1/2 inches wide.
