GAUGE: At end of Round 3, doily measures 3 inches across.

DIRECTIONS:

  1. Round 1: Ch 8, sl st in first ch made to form ring, ch 1, work 16 scs in ring, join with sl st in first sc: 16 scs.
  2. Round 2: Ch 3 (counts as first dc here and throughout), dc in same sp, ch 2, [sk 1 dc, work 2 dcs in next sc, ch 2] around, join with sl st in top of ch-3: 8 2-dc groups.
  3. Round 3: Ch 3, dc in same sp, work 2 dcs in next dc, ch 3, [work 2 dcs in each of next two dcs, ch 3] around, join with sl st in top of ch-3: 8 4-dc groups.
  4. Round 4: Sl st to second dc, ch 3, dc in each of next 2 dcs, work 2 dcs in ch-sp, ch 3, [sk first dc, dc in next 2 dcs, work 2 dcs in ch-sp, ch 3] around, join with sl st in top of ch-3: 8 5-dc groups.

  18. Each pineapple is made separately from now on.
  19. Pineapple: Row 1: Thread 15 beads onto crochet thread. Attach thread to any second ch-3 sp. (Ch 3, dc, ch 3, 2 dcs, shell made) in same ch-sp, ch 6, * dc in second dc, ch 1, pull up bead; repeat from * four times, ch 6, work (2 dcs, ch 3, 2 dcs, shell made) in ch-3 sp, turn: 5 beads, 2 shells.
  20. Row 2: Ch 3, work shell in ch-3 sp, ch 6, * dc in second dc, ch 1, pull up bead; repeat from * three times, ch 6, work shell in ch-sp, turn: 4 beads, 2 shells.
  21. Row 3: Repeat Row 2, adding 3 beads as before.
  22. Row 4: Repeat Row 2, adding 2 beads as before.
  23. Row 5: Repeat Row 2, adding 1 bead as before.
  24. Row 6: Ch 3, work shell in ch-3 sp, ch 6, sc in top of bead-sp, ch 6, shell in ch-3 sp, turn.
  25. Row 7: Ch 3, shell in ch-3 sp, ch 6, shell in ch-3 sp. Fasten off.
  26. Repeat Pineapple Rows 1-7 in each remaining pineapple.
  27. Edging: With sl knot on hk, sl st in any first turning ch-3, ch 3, dc in same sp, ch 4, sl st in first ch made (picot), work 2 dcs in same sp, ch 4, * in next turning ch [work (2 dcs, picot, 2 dcs), ch 4] around to top of shell between pineapples, sc in top of shell between pineapples, ch 4; repeat from * around, join with sl st in top of first ch-3: 64 picots.
  28. Finishing: Weave in all loose ends. Starch doily following manufacturer’s instructions. Pin points of picots to cardboard circle so that doily is round. Remove when dry.

FINISHED SIZE: Doily measures 19-1/2 inches across.
