- 36 oz. 4-ply worsted weight yarn in choice of color (sample afghan made with Caron’s Simply Soft yarn)
- Size I/9 (5.5 mm) crochet hook

HELPFUL ABREVIATION GUIDE
GAUGE: 8 dc or post stitches = 4 in.
SPECIAL STITCHES:
Front Post Stitch (FP): yo, insert hook from front to back around post of next st on last row (yo, draw through 2 loops on hook) 2 times. Skip next st on last row behind FP.
Back Post Stitch (BP): yo, insert hook from back to front around post of next st on last row (yo, draw through 2 loops on hook) 2 times. Skip next st on last row behind BP.
Directions:
CROCHET INTERIOR
Row 1: Loosely ch 87, dc in fourth ch from hk, dc in each ch across, turn.
Row 2: Ch 3 (counts as first dc), dc in each st across, ch 3, turn.
Row 3: [FP around next st in last row, dc in next st] across, ch 3, turn.
Row 4: [BP around next st in last row, dc in next st] across.
Row 5: Dc in each st across.
Repeat Rows 2-5 24 more times.
Do not turn work.
CROCHET BORDER
Round 1: Ch 1, work 3 sc in corner st, work sc down side, spacing sts evenly and using as many sts as needed to keep area flat. Work 3 sc in next corner, work sc in each unused loop of beginning ch. Work 3 sc in next corner, work sc down side, spacing sts evenly and using as many sts as needed to keep area flat. Work 3 sc in last corner, work sc in each st across. Join with sl st in first sc. Ch 1 (do not turn).
Rounds 2-4: Work first sc in same st as joining. Work 3 sc in second corner st, work sc in each st down side. Work 3 sc in second st of next corner, work sc in each st across. Work 3 sc in second st of next corner, work sc in each st down side. Work 3 sc in second st of last corner, work sc in each st across. Join with sl st at end of each round. For Rounds 2-3, ch 1 (do not turn). For Round 4, ch 3 (do not turn).
Rounds 5-7: Dc in each st around, working 3 dc in second st of each corner. Join with sl st at end of each round. For Rounds 5-6, ch 3 (do not turn). For Round 7, ch 1 (do not turn).
Round 8: Sc in same st as joining, [ch 3, skip 1 st, sc in next st] around. Join to first sc. Fasten off and weave in ends.
