GAUGE: 7 hdc = 2 inches and 2 rows = 1 inch.

DIRECTIONS:

BASKET: BOTTOM:

  1. Rnd 1: With MC, ch 10. Dc in fourth ch from hk and in each of next 5 chs; work 5 dc in end ch; working in bottom lps on opposite side of ch, dc in each of next 6 ch; work 4 dc in bottom lp of beg ch-3; sl st in beg ch-3 space.
  2. Rnd 2: Sl st in top of first dc of Rnd 1; ch 3, dc in each of next 5 sts; * work 2 dc in each of next 2 sts, 3 dc in next st, 2 dc in each of next 2 sts *; dc in each of next 6 sts; rep from * to * one time; sl st in top of ch-3.
  3. Rnd 3: Ch 3, dc in each of next 8 sts; * work 2 dc in next st, [1 dc in next st, 2 dc in next st] three times *; dc in each of next 10 sts; rep from * to * one time; dc in next st; sl st in top of ch-3.
  4. Rnd 4: Ch 3, dc in each of next 9 sts; * work [2 dc in next st, 1 dc in next st] two times, 3 dc in next st, [1 dc in next st, 2 dc in next st] two times *; dc in each of next 12 sts; rep from * to * one time; dc in each of next 2 sts; sl st in top of ch-3.
  5. Rnd 5: Ch 3, dc in each of next 12 sts; * work 2 dc in next st, 1 dc in each of next 2 sts, [2 dc in next st, 1 dc in next st] two times, 1 dc in next st, 2 dc in next st *; dc in each of next 18 sts; rep from * to * one time; dc in each of next 5 sts; sl st in top of ch-3.
  6. Rnd 6: Ch 3, dc in each of next 12 sts; * work [2 dc in next st, 1 dc in each of next 2 sts] two times, 3 dc in next st, [1 dc in each of next 2 sts, 2 dc in next st] two times *; dc in each of next 18 sts; rep from * to * one time; dc in each of next 5 sts; sl st in top of ch-3. Set aside piece without fastening off yarn.
  7. Lining: With color B, rep Rnds 1-6, fastening off yarn at end of Rnd 6.
  8. Plastic canvas: From plastic canvas, cut three strips 4 bars (3 holes) wide and 116 bars (115 holes) long. Set aside for basket handles.
  9. For base of basket, cut a rectangle from remaining plastic canvas 41 bars (40 holes) wide and 58 bars (57 holes) long. Place the crocheted basket bottom on top and use it as a pattern to trim off the corners of the rectangle, creating an oval base. Trim length and width of canvas, as needed, to match basket bottom. The size of the oval will vary depending on the accuracy of your gauge.
  10. Rnd 7: With wrong sides together, place the basket bottom on top of the matching lining piece. Inserting hk through next st on basket bottom and through the st directly behind it on lining piece, work 1 sc with MC. Continuing to work through both pieces with each st, use MC to sc in each of next 36 sts; insert canvas and place a layer of fiberfill between the canvas and lining piece; working through both pieces with each st, sc in last 37 sts (74 sc).
  11. SIDES: Rnd 8: With MC, hdc in front lp of next sc; mark back lp of same st with a safety pin (the lining will be crocheted in the back lps later); working in front lp of each sc, hdc in each sc around; join with a sl st in first st of rnd (74 hdc).
  12. Rnds 9-10: Working through both lps of each hdc, ch 1, hdc in same space as sl st; hdc in each st around; join with a sl st in first st of rnd (74 hdc). Fasten off at end of Rnd 10.
  13. Lining sides: Turn basket so lining side is on top. With color B, sl st in lp marked with safety pin; hdc in same lp; hdc in each back lp around; join with a sl st in first st of rnd (74 hdc). With color B, rep Rnds 9-10. Do not fasten off.
  14. Joining rnd: With color B, join the basket sides to lining sides as follows:  Working each st through both pieces as for Rnd 7, insert fiberfill between two layers and sc in each st around (74 sc), adding additional fiberfill between layers as you work; join with a sl st in first sc of rnd. Fasten off.
  15. With MC of basket facing, attach MC to front lp of next sc with a sl st; hdc in same st and rep Rnd 8. Rep Rnds 9-10.
  16. With color B, rep Lining sides and Joining rnd.
  17. Final basket rnd: Attach MC with a sl st in any sc of joining rnd; * ch 1, sl st in next sc; rep from * around; end with ch 1, sl st in first sc of rnd. Fasten off. Use yarn needle to weave in loose ends.

HANDLE: Stack the three 3-hole x 115-hole plastic canvas pieces on top of each other and overcast the edges with MC, working each st through all three layers.

  1. Row 1: With MC, ch 55. Hdc in third ch from hk and in each ch across; ch 2, turn (53 hdc).
  2. Rows 2-4: Hdc in each st across row; ch 2, turn (53 hdc). Fasten off.
  3. Fold strip in half lengthwise. Attach color B with a sl st in first st; insert hk in next st and in lp at bottom of st on opposite long edge and work 1 sc; continuing in this way, sc in each st across row, ending with 3 sc in last st for corner; sc across short open end, working 3 sc in corner st; evenly space 53 sc across the folded edge of strip. When remaining short end is reached, slip plastic canvas handle inside strip. Work 3 sc in corner st; sc across short end to close the strip, ending with 2 sc in last st; join with a sl st in first sc. Fasten off.
  4. Attach MC with a sl st in any sc of previous rnd and (ch 1, sl st) in each sc around; end with ch 1, sl st in first sc of rnd; fasten off. Use yarn needle to weave in loose ends and hand-sew ends of handle to inside of basket.

BUNNY: HEAD: Make one with MC. Mark the end of each rnd with a safety pin, moving the pin with each new rnd.

  1. Rnd 1: Ch 3, work 7 hdc in third ch from hk (8 hdc, counting beg ch-2 as 1 hdc).
  2. Rnd 2: Work 2 hdc in each hdc around (16 hdc).
  3. Rnd 3: * Hdc in next hdc, work 2 hdc in next hdc; rep from * around (24 hdc).
  4. Rnd 4: * Hdc in each of next 2 hdc, work 2 hdc in next hdc; rep from * around (32 hdc).
  5. Rnds 5-7: Hdc in each hdc around (32 hdc).
  6. Rnd 8: Hdc in each of next 20 hdc; ch 12, skip next 11 hdc and sl st in next hdc.
  7. Rnd 9: Hdc in each of next 20 hdc and in each of next 12 ch (32 hdc).
  8. Rnd 10: * Hdc in each of next 2 hdc, dec over 2 hdc; rep from * around (24 hdc). To dec over 2 hdc: yo, insert hk in next st, pull up a lp, insert hk in next st, pull up a lp, yo and draw yarn through 4 lps on hk.
  9. Rnd 11: * Dec over 2 hdc; rep from * around (12 hdc).
  10. Rnd 12: Rep Rnd 11 (6 hdc); sl st in next st. Fasten off, leaving a long tail for sewing.

EARS: Work two in MC and two in color A.

  1. Rnd 1: Ch 16; sc in second ch from hk, sc in next ch, hdc in each of next 2 ch, dc in each of next 5 ch, hdc in each of next 3 ch, sc in each of next 2 ch, work 3 sc in last ch; working in bottom lps on opposite side of ch, sc in each of next 2 ch, hdc in each of next 3 ch, dc in each of next 5 ch, hdc in each of next 2 ch; sc in each of next 2 ch.
  2. Rnd 2: * Work 3 sc in next st; sc in each of next 15 sts; rep from * one time. Fasten off.
  3. With wrong sides together, place one color A ear on top of one MC ear and with MC sc around to join, making 2 sc in each of 3 sc at tip. Fasten off, leaving a long tail for sewing.

TAIL: Make one with MC.

  1. Rnd 1: Ch 2, work 6 sc in second ch from hk.
  2. Rnd 2: Work 2 sc in each sc around (12 sc).
  3. Rnd 3: * Sc in next sc, work 2 sc in next sc; rep from * around (18 sc).
  4. Rnd 4: * Sc in each of next 2 sc, work 2 sc in next sc; rep from * around (24 sc).
  5. Rnd 5: * Sc in each of next 3 sc, work 2 sc in next sc; rep from * around (30 sc).
  6. Rnds 6-7: Sc in each st around (30 sc).
  7. Rnd 8: * Sc in each of next 3 sc, dec over 2 sc; rep from * around (24 sc). To dec over 2 sc: (insert hk in next st, pull up a lp) two times, yo and draw yarn through 3 lps on hk.
  8. Rnd 9: * Sc in each of next 2 sc, dec over 2 sc; rep from * around (18 sc).
  9. Rnd 10: * Sc in next sc, dec over 2 sc; rep from * around; sl st in next st (12 sc). Fasten off, leaving a long tail for sewing. Insert fiberfill.

NOSE: Make one with color A.

  1. Rnd 1: Ch 2; work 6 sc in second ch from hk.
  2. Rnd 2: Work 2 sc in each sc around (12 sc).
  3. Rnd 3: Sc in each sc around (12 sc).
  4. Rnd 4: Dec over 2 sc around; sl st in next st (6 sc). Fasten off, leaving a long tail for sewing. Insert fiberfill.

CHEEKS: Make two with MC.

  1. Rnds 1-4: Repeat Rnds 1-4 of tail.
  2. Rnd 5: Sc in each sc around (24 sc).
  3. Rnd 6: * Sc in each of next 2 sc, dec over 2 sc; rep from * around (18 sc).
  4. Rnd 7: * Sc in next sc, dec over 2 sc; rep from * around; sl st in next st (12 sc).
  5. Rnd 8: [Sc in next 4 sc, dec over 2 sc] two times; sl st in next st (10 sc). Fasten off, leaving a long tail for sewing. Insert fiberfill.

FINISHING: Sew nose and cheeks to head. Stuff head, attaching eyes before head is tightly stuffed. Sew front of head opening to outside of basket and back section of opening to inside, stuffing firmly before closing. Sew ears in place to head. Tack ends of ears to handle. Sew tail to back of basket.
