Instructions

GAUGE: 4 dcs and 2 rows = 1 inch. Slight variations in gauge will change the finished size slightly.

DIRECTIONS:

The entire tree skirt is worked in rows with the right side facing.

  1. Row 1: With red, ch 9, sc in second and third chs from hk, hdc in each of next 2 chs, dc in each of next 2 chs, tr in each of next 2 chs. Fasten off.
  2. Row 2: Join white with a sl st in first sc of Row 1, ch 3, tr in next sc, dc in each of next 2 hdcs, hdc in each of next 2 dcs, sc in each of the next 2 trs. Fasten off.
  3. Row 3: Join green with a sl st in side of first sc of Row 1, ch 9, sc in second and third chs from hk, hdc in each of next 2 chs, dc in each of next 2 chs, tr in each of next 2 chs, sl st tightly in top of next ch-3, ch 1, sc in next tr, hdc in each of next 2 dcs, dc in each of next 2 hdcs, tr in each of next 2 scs. Fasten off.

  25. Rows 25-168: Rep Rows 13-24 twelve more times.
  26. Row 169: Rep Row 13 in sts of first five triangles, sl st in top of next ch-3. Fasten off.
  27. If you do not want the skirt to have a side opening, thread tapestry or yarn needle with red yarn and sew first and last rows together.

Center border: Join green with a sl st in side of first sc at edge of center opening or in side of any sc if first and last rows were sewn together, ch 1, sc in side of next sc, * sc in center ch of next ch-3, sc in side of each of next 2 scs; rep from * around, join with a sl st in beg sc if seam was sewn or fasten off.

Outer border: Join green with a sl st in side of tr at outer edge of center opening or any tr if first and last rows were sewn together, ch 2 for first hdc, hdc in same tr, * ch 3, sl st in third ch from hk for picot, work 2 hdcs in same tr, sc in next sc, work 2 hdcs in side of next tr; rep from * around, join with a sl st in top of ch-2 if seam was sewn or fasten off.

Use tapestry or yarn needle to weave in all loose ends.

FINISHED SIZE: Tree skirt measures about 34 inches across.
