GAUGE: Working in dc, 6 sts = 1 inch and 3 rows = 1 inch.

DIRECTIONS: With baby yarn and size E hook, ch 177. (Loop on hook does not count as a ch.)

  1. Row 1: Sk the first 3 chs and dc in fourth ch from hook (counts as first dc), dc in each ch across. Ch 3 (counts as first dc of next row here and throughout), turn: 175 dcs.
  2. Row 2: Sk the first dc on this and all subsequent rows and dc in each of the next dcs across row, dc in the top of turning ch. Ch 3, turn: 175 dcs.
  3. Row 3: Dc in each of the next 5 dcs; * [ch 1, sk next dc, dc in next dc] twice, dc in each of the next 16 dcs; repeat from * across row, ending last repeat with 5 dcs. Ch 3, turn.
  4. Row 4: Dc in each of the next 4 dcs; * [ch 1, sk next dc, dc in next ch-1 sp] twice, ch 1, sk next dc, dc in next 15 dcs; repeat from * across row to last 5 dcs, dc in each dc to end of row. Ch 3, turn.
  5. Row 5: Dc in each of the next 4 dcs and in next ch-1 sp; * [ch 1, dc in next ch-1 sp] twice, dc in each of the next 15 dcs and in the next ch-1 sp; repeat from * across row, ending last repeat with 5 dcs. Ch 3, turn.
  6. Row 6: Dc in each dc and in each ch-1 sp across. Ch 3, turn: 175 dcs.
  7. Row 7: Dc in each dc across. Ch 3, turn: 175 dcs.
  8. Row 8: Dc in each of the next 15 dcs; * [ch 1, sk next dc, dc in next dc] twice, dc in next 16 dcs, repeat from * across row, ending last repeat with 15 dcs. Ch 3, turn.
  9. Row 9: Dc in each of the next 14 dcs * [ch 1, sk next dc, dc in ch-1 sp] twice, ch 1, sk next dc, dc in each of the next 15 dcs; repeat from * to end of row. Ch 3, turn.
  10. Row 10: Dc in each of the next 14 dcs and next ch-1 sp; * [ch 1, sk 1 dc, dc in next ch-1 sp] twice, dc in each of the next 15 dcs and in next ch-1 sp; repeat from * across row, ending last repeat with 15 dcs. Ch 3, turn.
  11. Rows 11-12: Repeat Rows 6-7.
  12. Rows 13-92: Repeat Rows 3-12 eight more times.
  13. Rows 93-97: Repeat Rows 3-7. Fasten off.
  14. Edging Row 1: Join yarn in any st and sc around outside edge, working two sc over the end sts of each row, three around each corner and one in each st across the beginning and ending rows. Join with sl st in beginning sc.
  15. Row 2: Ch 4, dc in same sc, ch 1; * [dc in next sc, ch 1] twice; work (1 dc, ch 1, 1 dc) in next sc, ch 1; repeat from * around. Join with sl st in beginning ch 4.
  16. Row 3: Work (1 sc, ch 2, 1 sc) in each ch-1 sp around. Join with sl st in beginning sc. Fasten off.

FINISHED SIZE: Afghan measures 31-1/2 inches x 33 inches.
