Instructions

GAUGE: End of Round 3 = 3 inches across.

DIRECTIONS: With white, ch 4, join with a sl st to form a ring.

  1. Round 1: Ch 3 (counts as first dc throughout), work 11 dcs in ring, join with a sl st in third ch of beginning ch-3: 12 dcs.
  2. Round 2: Ch 3 and change to red when making third chain (do not fasten off white), dc in back lp of same st as joining, * pick up white and dc in back lp of next dc, pick up red and dc in back lp of same dc; repeat from * around, pick up white after last dc, join with a sl st in third ch of beginning ch-3: 24 dcs. Fasten off red.
  3. Round 3: With white, ch 3, dc in same st, work 2 dcs in each dc around, join with a sl st in third ch of beginning ch-3: 48 dcs.
  4. Round 4: Ch 3, dc in back lp of next dc and in back lp of each remaining dc around, join with a sl st in third ch of beginning ch-3: 48 dcs.
  5. Round 5: Ch 4, sk next dc, dc in next dc, ch 1, * sk next dc, dc in next dc, ch 1; repeat from * around, attach red after last st, join with a sl st in third ch of beginning ch-4: 24 dcs and 24 ch-1 sps.
  6. Round 6: With red, ch 1, sc in same st as joining, sc in each dc and in each ch-1 sp around, pick up white after last st, join with a sl st in beginning sc: 48 scs.
  7. Round 7: With white, ch 1, sc in same st as joining, * sk next sc, sc in next sc (dc with white, dc with red, dc with white, ch 2 with white, dc with white, dc with red, dc with white) for shell, sk next sc, sc in next sc; repeat from * around, join with a sl st in beginning sc: 12 shells and 12 scs. Fasten off.
  8. Use yarn or tapestry needle to weave in all loose ends.

Jar Topper Cord:

  1. Working with a strand of red and white together as one, ch 100. Fasten off and weave in loose ends.
  2. Weave cord through Round 5 of jar topper.
  3. Fill jar with Christmas candies. Place topper on jar lid. Tie ends of cord in a bow to secure topper on jar.

FINISHED SIZE: Jar topper measures about 5 inches across.
