GAUGE: One hexagon motif is 10 inches across, measuring from point to point.

BEGINNING 3 DOUBLE CROCHET CLUSTER: beg 3dc cluster

  • Ch 3 (counts as first dc), * yo, insert hk into ring, draw yarn through ring, yo, draw yarn through 2 lps; rep from * one more time; yo, draw yarn through 3 lps on hk.

3 DOUBLE CROCHET CLUSTER: 3dc cluster

  • * Yo, insert hk into ring, draw yarn through ring, yo, draw yarn through 2 lps; rep from * two more times; yo, draw yarn through 4 lps on hk.

TREBLE TWO ROWS DOWN: tr2d

  • Yo twice, insert hk into sp or st 2 rows down as directed in instructions and draw yarn through; * yo, draw yarn through 2 lps; rep from * two more times.

DIRECTIONS: 

HEXAGON MOTIF (Make 37): All rnds are worked on the RS of work. With Color A, ch 4; sl st in fourth ch from hk to form a ring.

  • Rnd 1: Work beg 3dc cluster in ring, ch 3; work [3dc cluster, ch 3] five times into ring; join with a sl st in top of beg ch-3 (6 clusters in ring). Fasten off.
  • Rnd 2: Attach Color B to any ch-3 sp, ch 3 (counts as first dc) and work [1 dc, ch 1, 2 dc] in the same space; work [2 dc, ch 1, 2 dc] in each remaining ch-3 sp; join with a sl st in top of beg ch-3. Fasten off.
  • Rnd 3: Attach Color A to any ch-1 sp and work [2 sc, ch 1, 2 sc] in the same sp, sk first dc and sc in each of next 3 dc; * work [2 sc, ch 1, 2 sc] in next ch-1 sp, sk first dc and sc in each of next 3 dc; rep from * around; join with a sl st in beg sc. Fasten off.
  • Rnd 4: Attach Color C to any ch-1 sp; ch 3 and work [1 dc, ch 1, 2 dc] in the same space, dc in each of next 6 sc; * work [2 dc, ch 1, 2 dc] in next ch-1 sp, dc in each of next 6 sc; rep from * around; join with a sl st in top of beg ch-3. Fasten off.
  • Rnd 5: Attach Color A to any ch-1 sp; * work [1 sc, ch 3, 2 dc] in the same space, * sk 3 dc and work [1 sc, ch 3, 2 dc] in the next dc, sk 2 dc and work [1 sc, ch 3, 2 dc] in the next dc, sk 3 dc and work [1 sc, ch 3, 2 dc] in the next ch-1 sp; rep from * four more times; sk 3 dc and work [1 sc, ch 3, 2 dc] in the next dc, sk 2 dc and work [1 sc, ch 3, 2 dc] in the next dc, sk 3 dc and join with a sl st in beg sc.   • Rnd 6: Attach Color C to any corner sp of Rnd 4, attaching yarn to the right of sts made in Rnd 5. Ch 4 (counts as first tr2d) and work [1 tr2d, ch 1, 2 tr2d] in same sp; sc in next ch-3 sp of Rnd 5 (the one worked in the same corner sp of Rnd 4), sc in next dc of Rnd 5, [work 1 tr2d in one of the skipped dc of Rnd 4, sc in next ch-3 sp of Rnd 5, sc in next dc of Rnd 5] twice.
  • * Work [2 tr2d, ch 1, 2 tr2d] in next corner sp of Rnd 4; sc in next ch-3 sp of Rnd 5, sc in next dc of Rnd 5, [work 1 tr2d in one of the skipped dc of Rnd 4, sc in next ch-3 sp of Rnd 5, sc in next dc of Rnd 5] twice; rep from * four more times; join with a sl st in top of beg ch-4.
  • Rnd 7: Attach Color A to any ch-1 corner sp of Rnd 6; * work [2 sc, ch 1, 2 sc] in corner sp, sc in each of next 11 sts; rep from * around; join with a sl st in first sc of rnd.
  • Check that your first hexagon measures 10 inches. If it is too large, switch to a smaller hook. If it is too small, switch to a larger hook. Make 37 hexagon motifs.

ASSEMBLY: With Color A, sew or crochet hexagons into three 7-motif strips and two 8-motif strips. Referring to Afghan Diagram, sew or crochet the strips together.

BORDER: Work 1 rnd of evenly spaced sc around afghan, working [2 sc, ch 1, 2 sc] in each out-facing point. Use tapestry needle to weave in loose ends.§

FINISHED SIZE: Afghan is 44 inches wide x 82 inches long.
