This log cabin and its kitchen glow bright during the holidays.
When it comes to cozy, you can’t beat a cabin at Christmas.
Laura Hopkins-Cockroft’s log home stands in a meadow just outside Salina, Kansas. Ever since she and husband Richard built it in 2005, on his family’s farm, she’s enjoyed filling it with antiques found at auctions, flea markets, garage sales and even castoffs.
The kitchen features plenty of barn-red cabinets for storage; they match the island, where baskets tucked on shelves under the counter offer even more storage. Laura and Richard can grab a quick snack there, or eat more leisurely in the nearby dining area. There, charmingly mismatched chairs and a rustic bench are clustered around the antique farm table, underneath the hutche filled with jars of preserves and decked festively with greens.
The kitchen is part of the great room, which is highlighted by a stone fireplace that warms the area on the coldest nights. At Christmastime, Laura winds grapevines and tiny icicle lights around the overhead beams, accenting with stars and multiple narrow trees.
It’s a home that fairly glows with warm wishes and holiday cheer, inside and out.
