Super-stickiness and resistance to wear instantly made duct tape a handyman’s best friend, but for years, the color limited its crafting uses to that old standby—the duct tape wallet.

Today, though, duct tape comes in a rainbow of bright colors and dramatic patterns that make it fun to craft everything from purses to prom dresses and to update all kinds of home decor accessories. Along with the newer Japanese paper tape (washi) and fabric tape, duct tape crafts are rolling into crafting spaces in a big way.

Party Ideas with Duct Tape Crafts

Introduce your girlfriends to the fun of duct tape crafting by inviting them over for a few hours to update an old vase, mirror or picture frame, or to craft something completely new, using the items in our slide show for inspiration.

Have each friend bring several rolls of tape, along with an object to revive. You provide more tape, rulers (for measuring), scissors, an X-acto knife, and disposable gloves, along with a table or other clean, flat surface to work on. You may want to print out project instructions and tips to refer to as you work.

Before you get started, take pictures of each guest and her item — so that you’ll have something to compare your guests’ completed duct tape crafts “after” shots to, as with this reader’s tray and bookcase makeovers.

Music will add to the atmosphere as you work on your duct tape crafts. These songs will help carry out the theme. (See how long it takes for your guests to catch on!)

  • Stuck Like Glue  – Sugarland
  • Roll With It — Easton Corbin
  • Let’s Stick Together — Bryan Ferry
  • Stuck on You — Elvis Presley
  • Stick With Me Baby — Robert Plant and Alison Krauss
  • Let the Good Times Roll — The Cars
  • Stuck on You — Lionel Richie
  • Stick By Me — UB40
  • Stuck with You — Huey Lewis and the News
  • Stuck in the Middle with You — Stealers Wheel
  • Proud Mary — Ike and Tina Turner (because they’re “rollin’ on the river,” of course)

What to serve?  Try a snack mix, like this Honey-Glazed Snack Mix and Confetti Caramel Corn. (Banana Sticky Buns or Rhubarb Sticky Buns are other fun options.)

Ready? Get rollin’ — and don’t forget to share those before and after photos of your duct tape crafts with us!
