Born from creative genes, Amy has been knitting for 18 years, sewing for more and is currently stuck on decoupage. She loves the color blue, sock monkeys and creating something crafty every day. Here we chat with Amy about her blog Mod Podge Rocks (modpodgerocksblog.com).

CW: How did you become part of the crafting and blogging worlds?

Amy: My mom signed me up for sewing camp when I was 10 (I didn’t want to go!), and I’ve been a nonstop crafter ever since. About four years ago, I was looking for a fun, comprehensive website for decoupage projects. I had no luck—so I created one myself. I love writing and had a personal online journal for years. Blogging about crafting was a natural transition and more interesting than talking about myself!

CW: How has your blog changed since you started?

Amy: Besides growing, it’s been redesigned several times to keep it interesting and fresh. I never would have guessed how much work it takes to maintain a blog. Luckily, I’m a multi-tasker. A big reward was the opportunity to write a book, Mod Podge Rocks, on one of my favorite subjects.

CW: What kind of relationship do you have with your followers? What posts or subjects have proven most popular?

Amy: I feel I know many of my readers, and I try to return the favor by sharing bits and pieces about myself, and funny stories now and then. My followers love beginner craft projects—simple and quick—and great gift ideas.

Two of my most popular posts are tutorials on screen-printing with Mod Podge and making bangle bracelets.

CW: How did decoupage become your craft of choice?

Amy: Mod Podge is so accessible. Unlike knitting and sewing that take some training and expertise, Mod Podge is attainable right out of the gate. Anyone who has crafted for a few years, has most likely encountered Mod Podge and done something fun and creative with it.

CW: What are the top three places you find crafting inspiration?

Amy: I like looking at blogs, color palettes and old magazines.

CW: What original craft project are you most proud of?

Amy: It’s a fun piece of wall art featuring old keys. I like most craft projects that represent my personality, and wall art is a particular favorite.
