Amazingly creative blogger Beverly loves a good crafting challenge: whether it’s embroidering, making jewelry or sprucing up her home with DIY decor. We chatted with Beverly about her blog, Flamingo Toes, (www.flamingotoes.com) and how her quirky crafts live up to her blog’s name.

CW: Tell us a little about yourself. How did you get started crafting?

Beverly: I grew up in a family of seamstresses and artists, so I began sewing and crafting at a young age. I loved making my own clothes and room decor as a teenager as well.

CW: What changes has your blog undergone since you started? Have there been any memorable surprises, challenges or rewards it’s brought you?

Beverly: Since I started blogging, my photography has definitely improved. Those early photos make me cringe! Having the blog has also helped me become more confident and created some great opportunities for me. I never dreamed I would be featured in multiple magazines or work with wonderful companies. One day, I hope to have a craft book published.

CW: What kind of relationship do you have with your followers, and what projects have proven most popular with them?

Beverly: I love connecting with my readers. Nothing makes me happier than when someone shares a project they’ve made with my tutorials. Two of my most popular projects are my Summer Slouchy Hobo Bag  and my Starburst Silverware Mirror.

CW: How do you balance blogging with your family?

Beverly: My family is my biggest cheerleader! And now that my kids are teenagers, managing my time is a little easier. One of my goals this year is to work more during the day and keep my evenings clear, so we can talk, play games and just have good times hanging out together.

CW: What’s the story behind your blog’s unusual name?

Beverly: I wanted something fun and quirky that didn’t pin me down to just one creative style, because I knew that I would want to share lots of different projects. I also wanted a blog name that was memorable, and I think I chose the right one!
