"Make It Mine" Craft Contest
Show us how you change ordinary into extraordinary in our new Make It Mine Contest!
Do you add flair to ready-to-wear? Or maybe you don’t stop at making clothes and accessories, but go on to personalize them further, with embroidery, beads or more. Well...bling it on!
Dazzle us with your crafty entry in Country Woman’s new Make It Mine Contest. By bringing personalized style to attire, you could win $300 in cash.
What are we looking for? Anything and everything embellished, from dresses, skirts, tops, pants, sweaters and sweatshirts to coats and jackets. Or
decorated accessories—think hats, gloves, scarves, purses, shoes, boots and belts.
Do you make your fashion statement with embroidery, beads, fabric paint, stencils, yarn, buttons or bows? Enliven with applique, tucks and ruffles, decorative stitching, ribbons, piping and a variety of head-turning trims? Artistically add your name or initials?
We want to see jeans with jazzy patches, hand-painted T-shirts, dresses with flirty felt flowers and sweaters with sequined necklines. Show us sandals with jeweled straps, lacy wraps trimmed with sparkling crystals and hats all aglitter with rhinestones.
Originality is key, so items should be as unique as the people wearing them. Whether your embellishments give old clothes new life, turn off-the-rack into awesome, or set off to perfection your handmade item, it’s all in the creative details.
We’ll award $300 to the First-Prize winner. Second place is $200, third is $100, and the fourth-place winner will receive $50.
Winning entries will be pictured in a future issue.
Entry deadline is September 15, 2009.
We can’t wait to see how you adorn your wardrobe. Have fun!
Contest Rules
You must be the original designer of your embellished fashion. This means you created the design “from scratch” and didn’t copy it from another crafter, a published pattern or item you saw.
The actual item must be submitted as your entry. Label it with your name, address and phone number. You’ll also need to include instructions, charts or patterns, and a list of materials needed for every craft entered. Patterns must fit on one magazine page at full or half size.
You may use purchased items (buttons, pins, beads, sequins, etc.) that are widely available to create your entry.
A completed contest entry form must accompany each entry. Photocopies or hand-copied forms are permissible.
Country Woman staff, including our craft editor, will judge entries on creativity and expected appeal to CW readers (35% each), workmanship (20%) and adherence to good design principles (10%). The First-Prize winner will receive $300. Second place is $200, third is $100 and fourth is $50.
Include a check for return postage if you want your craft back; without return postage, items become the property of Reiman Media Group and cannot be returned.
Although all care will be taken with entries, Country Woman cannot be responsible for lost or damaged items.
Entries must be postmarked by September 15, 2009. Mail to “Make It Mine Contest,” Country Woman, 5400 S. 60th St., Greendale WI 53129.
Winners will be selected on or about October 1, 2009, and notified by mail, announced in our February/March 2010 issue, and possibly featured in future issues. Any other entries featured with instructions in future issues will be paid at standard contributor’s rates.
By entering, you agree to allow Country Woman to picture and/or publish instructions for any items submitted, and you grant Reiman Media Group, its parent company, subsidiaries, affiliates, partners and licensees use of this material, including your name, hometown and state. We reserve the right to modify, reproduce and distribute this material in any medium and in any manner or appropriate place. We may contact you via phone, E-mail or mail regarding your submission.
No purchase is necessary. Contest is governed by laws of the USA. All federal, state and local laws and regulations apply. Void where prohibited. Total number of entries expected: 200 to 300.
