Onions & Garlic Galore

The sweet smell of successful recipes will be in the air when we start testing your entries for our next national contest, “Onions and Garlic Galore.”

All types of onions are eligible, including yellow, white, green, red, pearl, Spanish, Bermuda, sweet onions—like Vidalias, plus shallots and leeks.

We’re also requesting recipes that call for aromatic fresh garlic cloves, whole bulbs or minced garlic in a jar.

Appetizers and Soups
Maybe you whip up crispy onion rings, roasted garlic spread and onion dip…or ladle out potato-leek and French onion soup.

Entrees and Sides
Does your menu star garlic-stuffed chicken, pasta with garlic sauce or an onion-enhanced stir-fry or pot roast? Perhaps guests weep with joy over your bloomin’ onions, garlic mashed potatoes or creamed pearl onions.

Salads and Breads
Tell us how you add gusto to your roasted garlic dressing or toss a popular red onion and orange salad. Baked goods, such as garlic bread and red onion focaccia, are other savory possibilities.

Whether you roast, caramelize or grill them…please, don’t hold the onions and garlic! The deadline for entering this contest is September 1, 2007. Winners will be featured in the April/May 2008 issue.

Great Prizes!
The Grand Prize is $500.00 cash. The second-prize winner will receive $300.00, and third prize is $200.00.

Each of the five runners-up will receive a $30.00 free merchandise certificate from Country Store.
